Estimation of the accumulated biomass in the forest ecosystem

Assist. Prof. Helmat Abubaker Saber

The event was held on 11th February 2025 at the Forestry Department, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Salahaddin University – Erbil. The seminar was and highlighted the estimation of the accumulated biomass in the forest ecosystem is important for assessing the productivity and sustainability of the forest.Biomass estimation of the forest ecosystem enables us to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide that can be sequestered from the atmosphere by the forest. The accurate assessment of biomass estimates of a forest is important for many applications, like timber extraction, tracking changes in the carbon stocks of forests, and the global carbon cycle. For biomass studies, trees are divided into homogeneous compartments: trunk wood, bark, live branches, dead branches, leaves, large and medium-size roots, and finally small roots. The method of field based biomass measurement can be divided into two types i.e. direct and indirect
