7th International Conference on Applied Science, Energy, and Environment (January 28–30, 2025)
Shahla Sherwan Rasool, Assistant Lecturer at Salahaddin University’s College of Science, Environmental Science and Health Department, delivered a presentation titled “Evaluating the Health and Cancer Risks of Heavy Metals Found in Some Common Medicinal Herbs.”
The session focused on assessing the presence of heavy metals in selected plant species and examining the associated health risks, including potential carcinogenic effects. The study involved sampling, laboratory analysis, and the application of risk assessment models to evaluate the impact of heavy metal contamination on human health.
This research supports the Good Health and Well-being objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing issues related to environmental pollution, food safety, and public health. The presentation helped raise awareness and sparked academic discussions on toxicology, environmental sustainability, and pollution control.
