On 16th Oct. 2024, Dr. Sanger Salih, A Lecturer Department of Chemistry, participated in program in the Kurdistan Region by Rudaw TV. Dr. Sanger, in his talk on Rudaw, explained the harmful effects of election posters. He said they cause visual pollution, making cities look messy. Many posters are not biodegradable, leading to long-term waste problems. They can also block traffic signs, creating safety risks. He mentioned the high cost of printing and cleanup, suggesting that digital campaigns are a better and cleaner option. He called for stricter rules to reduce these problems and keep cities cleaner. The program aligns with the objectives of SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Maintaining a Local Ecosystem) as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objective is election posters can cause waste and clutter, their impact is temporary, and proper recycling or eco-friendly materials can minimize environmental harm without banning them completely.
