In 23th Jan 2025, scientific trip to Vassen Refinery in Erbil city, organized by Dr. Sangar Salih Ahmed and MSc. Karwan Masood Rahman, aims to provide students with a practical understanding of oil refining and petrochemical production processes. The primary goal of the trip is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial applications, allowing students and researchers to observe how chemical engineering principles are implemented on a large scale. Students gain insights into the refinery’s operations, environmental management systems, and safety protocols, which are crucial for minimizing pollution and ensuring sustainable practices. Additionally, the trip fosters collaboration between academia and industry, inspiring participants to explore career opportunities in the oil and gas sector while encouraging innovation and responsible industrial practices. This scientific trip aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
