Remote IoT–Based Healthcare Monitoring System

ABSTRACT

The progress in communication and information technology has contributed to the creation of the Internet of Thing (IoT). IoT enables more hardware devices to record data via the Internet and provides further techniques of data interoperability, IoT today plays a crucial role in tracking, documenting, storing and communication in variety of fields like healthcare, smart cities, engineering, and others. Our main approach in this work is the adaptations new IoT based monitoring system including efficiently processed, continuously controlled data, will lead to massive positive changes in the healthcare sector. In this work a new remote IoT-based monitoring system is proposed for monitoring health status of patients who are in need for continuous prolonged follow up and monitoring by their doctors. In this work, the critical parameters of health are tracked and data transmitted via network. Data will be accessed for the benefit of the patient’s current condition.
This thesis focused on remote monitoring of body temperature (DS18B20), heart rate and SPO2(Peripheral Capillary Oxygen Saturation) (MAX30100), also, the position of patient can be obtained on demand using SIM7600E GSM and GNSS HAT (Hardware Attached on Top) Module. Raspberry Pi 4B used as microcontroller to gather data from health parameter sensors. Sensor data is transmitted to cloud storage via a network. Python programming language is used to gather, process, and transmit the data to the cloud storage. A Graphic User Interface (GUI) cross platform mobile application was developed for presenting real-time data to both doctors and patients. The results obtained in this work show that this new proposed system is beneficial for synchronous monitoring of patient’s health status hence allowing urgent medical decision by doctors at right time without need for initial physical contact and it is concluded that the proposed system allows remote monitoring of patients with chronic diseases, enabling doctors to make timely lifesaving decisions and avoid the need for physical presence.
